';Most people pray because of duty as opposed to connecting with something metaphysical';Do you agree with this saying?
No, not really. Most people pray out of wishful thinking and talking to themselves. The ever present narrative that won't turn off.Do you agree with this saying?
Most people pray because they've been conditioned to believe that is how you speak to God. There are other ways of showing appreciation for the divine source. To request things of the Great God of the universe.
The number of people who pray is way too vast to make such an assumption. Additionally, there's the problem of defining prayer (i.e. is someone calling out to a random ';God'; in a time of need really praying?). Plus, some people don't know why they pray, or think they pray for one reason when they really pray for another. The same goes for others: Some might think you pray for one reason, when you really pray for another. Also, what about those who pray b/c they want something (action or object)? I'd say that's probably why most people pray. So, NO, I don't agree with this saying.
Yes. People pray because they are afraid of judgement of the religious community. A lot of them have not felt the connection of the idealism world.
Agree. Most prayer is ritual.
Prayer is the medium to connect the individual self in us with the universal self for mutual benefit.
';Most people pray because of duty, as opposed to connecting with something metaphysical';-- Hmm.
Well, I don't know most people, so I can't say, for sure. :^)
But, for discussion's sake, I'd hazard a guess and suggest that MANY people ';pray'; out of a sense of duty, as they were taught growing up that this is what is expected in their religion.
Taking that train of thought to the next step, that sense of duty can then develop into something the person draws strength from, even if they don't actually make a connection with divine Great-Spirit, God, Allah, Yahweh, whatever name/title one wishes to attribute to The Almighty. They feel they are speaking TO God and more often than not, that speaking to is exactly that--TO, not, WITH-- it's a monologue of many requests with the occasional praise for extra punch and perhaps to reaffirm their belief that The Almighty One deserves praise. (and I'm not saying that praise isn't a good thing, but that's not the point of the discussion--just in case someone gets their shorts in a knot, ok?- :^).. }
Many folks believe that in order to commune with Great-Spirit that prayer must be involved--that's due, in most part, to what they've been taught through one source or another. I've found very few who believe,- (and if one truly believes something, the reality of that belief will be observed in daily life, btw)- that people are able to connect and communicate with Great Spirit in a way that is about having merged with The Almighty, and thus, one would actually be operating in conjunction with the power of the divine; therefore, it's not an activity that one engages in, with periods of disconnect and solo roaming--but a continuum as a matter of being. When one hits that stage, ';prayer'; as we know it, is redundant--for we are always abiding in and connected to Great Spirit.
Food for thought-- may it become your reality--nothing beats it! Peace, love %26amp; blessings~
Disagree - for appreciation and humility.
i disagree. if you pray as a matter of faith, you are talking to God. it is done to give thanks . praise the Lord, pray for others and for yourself.
if prayer is done as religon, it is done as lip service, form and fashion, keeping up appearances, not to connect with the Almighty.
